God's Mathematics
Charlotte Ostermann of late reminded me of a wonderful passage inward St Bonaventure that sums upwards the ancient agreement of how mathematics leads us to God:
"...since beauty together with please practice non be without proportion, together with since proportion exists primarily inward numbers, all things are dependent area to number. Hence 'number is the original exemplar inward the necessitate heed of the Creator,' together with inward things, the original vestige leading to Wisdom. And since release is nigh evident to all together with really to a greater extent than or less God, it leads us, yesteryear its sevenfold distinction, really to a greater extent than or less Him; it makes Him known inward all bodily together with visible things when nosotros apprehend numerical things, when nosotros please inward numerical proportions, together with when nosotros guess irrefutably yesteryear the laws of numerical proportions." - St Bonaventure, The Journey of the Mind to God.
